RTÉ TEN's TV picks for Sunday

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 28 Desember 2014 | 23.38

A brilliant documentary about a sporting icon, a new RTÉ2 music quiz show and Bond's 2006 comeback are our picks for tonight.

Senna
10:30pm, RTÉ2

Like us all, the late Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna was full of contradictions. For even the greenest filmmaker, the richness of the Brazilian's life would make it harder to fail than succeed, but what director Asif Kapadia and writer Manish Pandey accomplished with their 2011 documentary was very special: they made the legend bigger and the man more human. Instead of the 'talking heads' we expect from documentaries, Kapadia chose to use only his interviewees' voices, placing them over brilliant archive footage of Senna on and off the track. This means that the film has an unusual energy and flows like a mixture of biopic, sports drama and home movie - a white-knuckle, lump-in-the-throat must-see.

Hey Ho, Let's Go!
9:00pm, RTÉ2

Anoraks assemble! Scamp supreme Dermot Whelan returns with a new music comedy panel quiz show which goes big on trivia, with team leaders John Colleary and Colin Murphy trying to out-guff the host. And win, of course. If you like it there's a full series in the works for 2015.
Hey Ho, Let's Go!

Casino Royale
9:30pm, RTÉ One

The 007 renaissance with Daniel Craig as the 'blond Bond' began here. The plot finds Bond on the trail of Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a banker for terrorists whose latest attempt to manipulate stock prices has put him close to financial meltdown. With his customers wanting their money back, Le Chiffre has to set up a massive stakes poker game at Montenegro's Casino Royale. Bond's mission? To beat him at the table so Le Chiffre will be forced to seek protection from Bond's bosses and reveal all his secrets. It had its faults - a romance that didn't burn up the screen and a script that just wasn't tight or good enough - but what saved Casino Royale from being just another Bond outing was Craig: one movie in and you were already wondering who'd be able to replace him.

McCartney: Simply Having a Tangerine Xmas

Paul McCartney recently revealed on his website that a few nuts and a tangerine comprised the usual Christmas present for him as a boy.

'I think waking up as a really little kid on Christmas morning, and just seeing the white pillowcase that we used to get, " he recalled. Yes, it was like a stocking but Mum and Dad used to put it in a white pillowcase, and it would be a present, a couple of nuts and a tangerine."

He readily admits that the family were not wealthy by any means. "We weren't well off so it wouldn't be like kids today with their serious couple-of-hundred-quid presents. But yeah, it was just so exciting it was the "He's been! He's been!" Just totally buying into this idea that Santa had been in your bedroom and left this white pillow-case."

It wasn't so much the value of the presents, Macca points out, "though that was good too - it was just this idea of, "He's been!" I think that's what it is. The favourite memories come through your childhood innocence.'

The Liverpudlian also revealed that Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire by Nat King Cole was his favourite Christmas song. His favourite seasonal movie was It's a Wonderful Life, with James Stewart.

He also acknowledged the genius of singer Joe Cocker, who died after a battle with lung cancer on December 22.

Referring to the musician's cover version of The Beatles With A Little Help From My Friends, he declared: "It totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful to him for doing that."

Hugh Bonneville on Downton Abbey future

Hugh Bonneville believes that Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes will know when it is time to "put it to bed".

The 51-year-old actor, who plays Lord Grantham in the popular period drama, said, "It's a unique show, in that it feels so big in scale, but it comes down to one person's imagination; [writer and producer] Julian Fellowes.

"It's really him, and he'll know when it's time to tie-up all the loose ends and put it to bed. Shows like Downton are once in a career, and I know it will come to an end eventually - and I can just retire and do some knitting."

Bonneville further told PA that he feels lucky to be part of the show, adding, "I feel like a very lucky actor to be in a show that people love and continues to grow around the world.

"It's something I love doing, and the people involved are a fantastic team. I said to our producer not so long ago, that it's extraordinary to think that five years on, we're not punching each other!"

Jessie J: 'Miley royalties paid my rent'

Bang Bang hitmaker Jessie J has revealed that the royalties from Miley Cyrus's hit Party In The USA paid her rent for years.

The 26-year-old singer penned the track for Cyrus's 2010 album Can't Be Tamed.

Speaking to Glamour magazine, Jessie said, "You've got to write songs, that's where the money is, being an artist. 'Party In The USA' paid my rent for, like, three years.

Forsyth says live Strictly was "a very lonely job"

Bruce Forsyth has described his time as the live show presenter of Strictly Come Dancing as "a very lonely job" because he missed out on the banter.

In an interview with the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine, Forsyth explained: "People watching at home would see banter and interaction with the dancers, but in fact Tess [Daly, co-host] did most of that. I was more on my own. It was me and the camera."

He continued: "I'm a performer. I thrive on interaction, with an audience, with other performers. When you're a presenter, you don't get to do that."

Asked if he missed being a presenter on the Saturday live show, Forsyth replied: "Well not really."

He said: "When I told the BBC I wanted to step down from the live show, I was delighted when they asked me to continue presenting Strictly's Children in Need and Christmas show. It meant I would still have the chance to work with Tess again, whom I adore, and remain part of the Strictly family."

Forsyth said he still watches the show "sometimes" if he's at home.

"But the joy is that my wife and I can go out on a Saturday night now," he added.

The TEN Team's Films of 2014

Once again, the boxes have been opened, the votes have been counted and the falling-outs have been averted. We hope. Anyway, here's what we loved about 2014. And thanks to you, as always, for reading!

Sinead Brennan picks...
Begin Again
Begin Again

For me, Begin Again has it all - a great cast, lovely story, brilliant soundtrack and bucket loads of charm. I love that the relationships in the film feel real and relatable without ever going down the clichéd love-story route and there's enough comedy and fun to keep things fresh. I left the cinema with a warm and fuzzy feeling that I haven't had from a film in a long time and having seen it a few times since, I can vouch for its re-watch value too. An absolute must-see and, in my opinion, one of the most underrated films of the year.

Sinead Brennan's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) Begin Again
2) Nightcrawler
3) The Wolf of Wall Street

John Byrne picks...
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel

It was a pretty good year for film and it almost hurts to leave out Black Sea (a fine, old-fashioned thriller with a conscience), The LEGO Movie (a genuinely surprising treat) and I've yet to see Interstellar or Boyhood. But what I did see, and what blew me away more than most, was Wes Anderson's mid-European, between-wars tale about the almost Baron Munchausen-like adventures of a hotel concierge and gigolo (Ralph Fiennes at his comic best). You don't have to be an Anderson fan to admire it, but it obviously helps.

John Byrne's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) The Grand Budapest Hotel
2) Gone Girl
3) Nightcrawler

Alan Corr picks...
Under the Skin
Under the Skin

Scarlett Johansson delivers a riveting performance as a beautiful, man-eating alien in this lurid arthouse horror movie by Jonathan Glazer, director of Sexy Beast and Birth. She has come to Glasgow, of all places, to prey on men and despatch them in scenes of almost ritualistic murder, but her motives are never made clear in this unsettling, nightmarish film. Glazer brings us through altered states of reality in an unearthly, earthbound trip that slips in and out of the realms of the surreal. It is a deeply troubling but also strangely beautiful piece of work.

Alan Corr's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) Under the Skin
2) The Guest
3) The Imitation Game

Harry Guerin picks...
12 Years a Slave
12 Years a Slave

Steve McQueen's Oscar-winning film is a searing indictment of people at their worst, an inspirational true story and a long overdue honouring of Solomon Northup (the superb Chiwetel Ejiofor), a man the director rightly describes as "a real American hero". In 1841, Northup was kidnapped and sold to plantation owners, one of whom is brilliantly played by Michael Fassbender – the Kerry man should've won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. A harrowing and heartbreaking watch, but a story you have to see.

Harry Guerin's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) 12 Years a Slave
2) Locke
3) Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story

Paddy Kehoe picks...
The Past (Le Passé)
The Past

Ahmed (Ali Mosaffa) returns to Paris from Iran to divorce his French wife Marie (Bérénice Bejo). They have been separated for four years; Marie has requested that he come for the legal formalities, and he is intent on ending the relationship on good terms. But Ahmed soon realises that he is in deep, drawn into a domestic conflict involving a new lover and three children, all of whom are suffering. Inexorably, The Past becomes a compulsive drama of secrets and lies. Although director Asghar Farhadi's screenplay is a complex piece of machinery, the story is totally convincing and absorbing with one of the most powerful and moving endings in cinema history.

Paddy Kehoe's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) The Past (Le Passé)
2) Winter Sleep (Kis Uykusu)
3) One Million Dubliners

Taragh Loughrey-Grant picks...
Starred Up
Starred Up

Great title, and it refers not only to the term given to an inmate moving from a juvenile facility to an adult one, but also to the quality of director David Mackenzie's film. We meet Eric (Skins' Jack O'Connell), whose dad is also inside. However, he isn't the reformed role model he needs him to be and Eric is in trouble. Starred Up gets right up into the face of prison life and you can smell the adrenaline. Mackenzie may have chosen leading men with Hollywood looks but the calibre of the performances stays with you a lot longer than the pretty faces.

Taragh Loughrey-Grant's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) Starred Up
2) The LEGO Movie
3) Calvary (a tough call with Paddington so special too)

Sarah McIntyre picks...
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Wolf of Wall Street

Loud, brash, unapologetic and ruthlessly entertaining, The Wolf of Wall Street sees Martin Scorsese in top, scathing form as he tackles the story of real-life fraudster Jordan Belfort. His meteoric rise and fall is recounted in wild, energetic detail, as he and his cronies embark on a lifestyle characterised by mounds of cocaine, endless prostitutes and wads of cash, while trying to keep the Feds off their backs. Leonardo DiCaprio tears up the screen as Belfort in a great black comedy that, surprisingly, justifies its three-hour duration.

Sarah McIntyre's Top Three Movies of 2014
1) The Wolf of Wall Street
2) 12 Years a Slave
3) Frank

With the Angelina Jolie-directed Unbroken in Irish cinemas now, TEN's Harry Guerin met star Jack O'Connell to discuss the fascinating World War II true story.

His plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean in 1943, and he was later captured and incarcerated in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.

On the Box - TV Preview

John Byrne's TV choices for the week ahead (Dates covered: Saturday December 27 – Friday January 2).

Pick of the week

Charlie Brooker's 2014 Wipe, Tuesday, BBC Two

Charlie Brooker returns for his annual snotty round-up of the year, which as usual was depressingly devoid of good cheer. Whether it's news, film, telly or Twitter, expect the pointless absurdity of life to get the full Brooker treatment. Charlie will look back on a relentlessly grim year where the cheeriest stories were people throwing ice over themselves.

Star of the week

Shay Healy

What's Another Year? The Life and Times of Shay Healy, New Year's Eve, RTÉ One

In this one-hour documentary Shay, along with friends, colleagues and family members, looks back on a long, distinguished and occasionally turbulent life and times. For the past five decades Shay Healy has played his part in commenting on many aspects of Irish life. Through his songwriting, journalism, programme-making and all-round mischief-making his has been a unique contribution and continues to be so. Therefore, it's no surprise that celebrated figures from these areas have come together to pay tribute to Shay's life and times. They include Booker Prize-winner Anne Enright, Nighthawks co-host Ann Marie Hourihane, Riverdance creators John McColgan and Bill Whelan, iconic Irish songwriter Paul Brady, legendary balladeer Paddy Reilly and, not surprisingly, multiple Eurovision winner Johnny Logan.

Here's a very famous moment on Shay Healy's ground-breaking show, Nighthawks:

Starting this week

UTV Ireland, New Year's Day

Here's Pat on his last TV show, RTÉ One's The Frontline:

Last Tango in Halifax, Sunday, BBC One

Mapp and Lucia, Monday, BBC One

This is a new adaptation of EF Benson's Mapp & Lucia novels, starring Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor. It's 1930 and in the extraordinarily quaint Queen Anne village of Tilling which is by, but not quite on, the sea, all seems as tranquil as a mill pond. But its eccentric inhabitants exist in a world seething with gossip, faddishness and petty one up-manship and from her centrally located house of Mallards, Miss Elizabeth Mapp reigns supreme over them all.

The Musketeers, Friday, BBC One

The suave sword-fighters are sent to retrieve the Comte de Rochefort, the Cardinal's man in Madrid, who has escaped from a Spanish Prison. Rochefort brings news that the chief author of France's military strategy against Spain, General de Foix, has been captured. His epic journey begins with the planet's first flyers: the insect.

Drama of the week

Roald Dahl's Esio Trot, New Year's Day, BBC One

Mr Hoppy (Dustin Hoffman) lives a quiet retiree's life, tending to his balcony garden, pottering to the shops and back and secretly being passionately, hopelessly in love with his downstairs neighbour, Mrs Silver (Judi Dench). From their first meeting in a cramped lift he was utterly captivated by her sparkle and warmth, and he regularly fails to tell her this during their neighbourly chats over the balcony. When he finds she is distraught that her beloved tortoise, Alfie, doesn't appear to be growing, Mr Hoppy spots a chance to make his true love happy, and maybe even get closer to her in the process. When Mr Pringle (Richard Cordery), another neighbour, sets his more lascivious sights on Mrs Silver, Mr Hoppy's world crumbles. Stoically, he continues with his cunning plan to make Alfie miraculously grow and finally wins his way into Mrs Silver's heart – only to find he had been there all the while.

Comedy of the week

Callan Kicks the Year, Tuesday, RTÉ One

Callan Kicks the Year returns for its second Christmas special outing with Dobbo at the helm of an acerbic and funny look at Ireland and the world in 2014. New characters Shane McGowan, Imelda May and Ireland's only actors, The Gleesons, look back at the entertainment high points of the year.

Here's Oliver Callan's Meath Men sketch:

On Demand

Girls Seasons 1-3, Sky Atlantic

Ahead of the upcoming fourth season (it starts on January 11), the first three runs of Girls are available to view. Sharp as a tack and painfully funny, Lena Dunham's look at life for a group of twenty-somethings living in New York boasts some great if hopelessly self-centred characters, not least Dunham's Hannah Horvath, an aspiring writer who's going through life "one mistake at a time".

Documentary of the week

Man on Bridge, Sunday, RTÉ One

This one-off documentary tells the extraordinary story of legendary Dublin street photographer Arthur Fields. Having spent 50 years from the 1930s to the 1980s taking photographs on O'Connell Bridge, Arthur left a lasting impression on the lives of many Irish families and, indeed, on the fabric of the city itself. But what was the story behind the man and what impact did his obsession with work have on his own family?

Here's a short tribute to Arthur Fields:

Film of the Week

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, New Year's Eve, RTÉ One

One of the great family films, this adaptation of the Ian Fleming novel stars Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts, Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious, Lionel Jeffries as Grandpa Potts, James Robertson Justice as Lord Scrumptious and Robert Helpmann as The Childcatcher, possibly the scariest character ever to darken the big screen. The songs are brilliant, too. Sofas were made to enjoy gems such as this.

Hozier didn't expect Take Me to Church success

Hozier has said he never imagined his Grammy-nominated track Take Me to Church would be played much on the radio and its success has surprised him.

The singer-songwriter told Contact Music: "I didn't think it would be played on radio. Just because it's not a radio pop song and it doesn't sound like the other stuff that radios [stations] play."

He continued: "I was very, very surprised by the success of this stuff because I made a conscious decision not to write music just to impress people. It's certainly encouraged me to trust myself more and trust my instincts a bit more and to go with my gut."

Take Me to Church has been nominated for the Song of the Year award at the 2015 Grammys.

Russell Crowe: 'Actresses need to act their age'

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 23 Desember 2014 | 23.37

Russell Crowe thinks actresses need to act their age.

The 50-year-old Gladiator actor has hit out at older female stars who complain about the industry being discriminatory against middle-aged women, insisting there are roles out there but they still expect to be cast as young characters.

Speaking to Australian Women's Weekly, Crowe said: ''I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that [the roles have dried up] is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can't understand why she's not being cast as the 21 year old.''

Crowe added that his view is supported by successful women in the industry who have become renowned for playing older characters, adding: ''Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that's bulls**t.

''So will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be.''

Killers frustrated they are not as famous as U2

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has admitted he is frustrated they are not as famous as U2.

Speaking about how The Killers fit into the current music landscape the 33-year-old Mr Brightside singer said: "It's changed so much now, there's so much music out there and so much noise to compete with, it's strange times.

"So sometimes it's frustrating with four different people and four different personalities in this band, we don't have that whole history that U2 have of these four young kids that knew each other and grew up in the same town."

He admitted to NME that he is unsatisfied that The Killers haven't met the same levels of fame as U2. "It is frustrating. People actually talk about how they don't feel like they're adequate, and it's a big band. I don't feel like that - I feel like I can do it."

The Killers recently released their ninth annual Christmas single Joel, the Lump of Coal,  which aims to raise money for AIDS charity, (RED).

Flowers second solo album is expected to be released in 2015.

Unbreakable: Mark Pollock Story on RTÉ One Monday

Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story, the superb documentary about the aftermath of the blind adventure athlete's paralysis, airs on RTÉ One on Monday December 22 at 9:30pm. Harry Guerin says it's a must.

Guaranteed to be the Irish film of 2014 for many, the heart-rending but ultimately uplifting documentary Unbreakable charts a couple's journey as they try to move beyond the tragedy and trauma that became the reality of their lives. Indeed, such is the impact on the viewer that many of the worries that clog up our heads and hearts are rendered trivial while watching - a reminder to be thankful for what, and more importantly, who we have. As Pollock himself says: "Basically, you just need good people around you." His are among the greats.

Blind since the age of 22, Pollock had established himself as one of Ireland's top adventure athletes and professional speakers with achievements including the Gobi March, Everest Marathon, North Pole Marathon and South Pole Race. In 2010, just four weeks before his planned wedding to fiancée Simone George, he fell out a second-storey window and as a result of the fall was paralysed from the waist down.

Having survived severe infections, Pollock reached the crucial 12-week milestone for spinal injuries without signs of improvement, and with determination seeming minuscule in comparison to the abyss. "I cried every day for three months," he says. "I cried every second day for the next three months." But he didn't give up. There to capture the good moments amongst the bad days was Ross Whitaker, the director of the 2010 documentary about Pollock's trip to the South Pole, Blind Man Walking. The title of that film was to become their fuel for this one.

It truly feels trite to say anything about Unbreakable other than to watch it - this Christmas it may fix and focus more for you than seems possible. As Pollock and the equally remarkable George devote themselves to the physical and scientific work needed to change the lives of millions worldwide, your own hopes and plans for the future start taking greater shape - now that's inspirational cinema. Just before the final credits roll, Pollock says something that's as much for us as it is him: "Like everything, the end is just the start."

5/5

Watch! Neil Delamere sends up pirates and Seoiges

In the final episode of Holding Out for a Hero on RTÉ Two on Monday December 22 at 9:00pm, host Neil Delamere gives us his take on the pirate queen of Connaught, Gráinne Mhaol, and manages to work presenter sisters Gráinne and Síle Seoige into the story.

The team behind the show says that Gráinne Mhaol "was named the 'most notorious woman in all the coasts of Ireland' by the Lord Deputy of Ireland, Henry Sidney, back in the 16th century. She was a fearless leader by land and sea, a political pragmatist, a rebel, a ruthless plunderer, a mercenary and a matriarch. Honestly, she makes Neil look like a huge wuss. So naturally, he wants to know how she did it.

"In order to find out, Neil decides to follow the guidance of a band of angry pirates by taking to the sea in a replica 16th-century galley. He experiences first-hand just how hardy she would have to have been - although he doesn't go as far as giving birth on board, like she supposedly did. He also gets to taste a few 16th-century 'delicacies' that Gráinne might have enjoyed while dining in her many castles - castrated cockerel anyone?"

Movie review round-up!

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 19 Desember 2014 | 23.37

It's a bumper week for movies, but before you buy that popcorn check out what cinema releases are worth your hard earned cash.

Dumb and Dumber To

3.5/5

Starring: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Rob Riggle, Kathleen Turner

15A

There is one thing that left me completely flabbergasted even before I'd watched an inch of footage from this sequel, and that's the fact that the original is 20 years old. Sorrry, but where did those two decades go? Not very far if you're names are Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne.

The beauty of this concept is that you could dip into any time in the lives of these two dumb dudes and nothing will have changed because, well, there's simply no enlightening these guys. The original film was part of a multi-movie launch pad that made Jim Carrey one of Hollywood's biggest breakout stars of the 1990s, while Jeff Daniels had already made a huge impression almost a decade earlier in Woody Allen's Purple Rose of Cairo.

For better or worse (or dumber and dumber) they'll both......

Annie

2.5/5

Starring: Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne, Cameron Diaz, Quvenzhane Wallis, Bobby Cannavale

PG

Produced by Jay Z and Will Smith, this musical-comedy adventure has more than 99 problems - and a decent script is one.

An update from the 1977 Broadway musical and John Huston's 1982 movie, the new hip-hop reboot takes viewers from the Great Depression to present-day New York. Annie (Wallis) is no longer an orphan, but a savvy and streetwise 10-year-old foster kid, under the care of boozy welfare cheat Miss Hannigan (Diaz).

After a chance encounter with mobile phone tycoon and wannabe Mayor, Will Stacks (Foxx), AKA the new Daddy Warbucks, Annie finds herself leaving her cramped Harlem apartment to live in Stacks' 'Starship Enterprise' smart house. As Stacks begins to appear more relatable to the common voter, his ratings begin to soar. But is his drastic measure to become mayor.........

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb

1.5/5

Starring: Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Dan Stevens, Ben Kingsley, Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan

PG

In Night at the Museum:Secret Of The Tomb, Ben Stiller once again plays Larry the security guard who is effectively custodian of the lives of his lively exhibits. As the movie begins, his night at the museum in New York goes horribly wrong. In the middle of a meticulously-choreographed routine, the exhibits refuse to do as instructed. All mayhem breaks loose as the characters wreak havoc and generally upset the celebs who are in attendance.

It transpires that the museum's magic tablet - found during an exhibition in Egypt decades ago – is corroding. This means that the very thing that causes the exhibit characters to come to life is threatened.

In search of a solution, Larry travels to .......

Ex-Westlifer Mark Feehily to launch solo career

Former Westlife member Mark Feehily is reported to be working on a `soulful' autobiographical electronic album which he plans to perform for the first time at a gig in London in March of next year.

Dublin newspaper The Herald reports that the 34-year-old Sligo man, who was often singled out as the boyband's best singer, is said to be taking a darker, Sam Smith like approach to solo material and is working with `big names' in the music industry.

"There's a lot to be said for working with some of the most successful producers in the business," Feehily said. "But at the same time there's a real excitement that comes from working with some of the hottest up-and-coming talents."

"It's more daunting to write and perform songs that are autobiographical," he added. "I tend to write more when I'm feeling down or when something bad happens as it can be the only way to express myself.

"I'm really looking forward to sharing the new songs with the fans."

Jon Hamm: 'Working in the UK is civilised'

Jon Hamm has said that he thinks working as an actor in the UK is "civilised" compared to America.

The Mad Men star shot the TV show Black Mirror in London, and appreciated the fact that he had regular working hours.

He told the New York Daily News: "You have an end of the day that is resolute. It's civilised.

"In the States, we go until the work is done or until you fall over, and it is a disaster. You cannot have plans. You just work until you stop working.

"[In London], you work until five o'clock and then you go home, and you go to a hotel and have dinner and see a show. It is awesome."

Exodus: Gods and Kings star Joel Edgerton has said he becomes nervous during the first few days on a set because he thinks he will be fired.

The 40-year-old told Metro: ''The first few days are so nerve-wracking for me. The anxiety, trying to block out whether or not I'm going to get fired, thinking, 'I don't know how I'm going to do this, how are they going to feel about that?'"

Edgerton told Metro that despite his nerves, he still loves his job.

He said: "Being an actor is a blessing and a curse. You get to meet a lot of people you've been watching for years."

Edgerton added: "You get to meet [Exodus: Gods and Kings director and co-star] Ridley Scott and Christian Bale, people I admire.

Frozen director's "sorry" to parents for Let It Go

The director of animated mega hit Frozen has apologised to parents who've had to listen to the movie's breakout song Let it Go a million times.

Well, possibly 380 million times - that's how many times the tune has been viewed on YouTube and that's not counting return visits to the cinema and the film's release on DVD.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Frozen director Jennifer Lee said: "A year ago, I'd meet people who, when they found out who I was, they'd say, 'Oh, we love the songs! We sing them all the time'.

"Now they're like, 'Yep, we're still listening to those songs.' I've gone from, 'Thank you,' to, 'Sorry!'"

The song was performed by Idina Menzel and has seen numerous parodies, including the popular 'F*** It All'.

And just in case you missed it . . .

Scarlett Johansson unfazed by sex scenes

Scarlett Johansson has said that love-making on screen is "challenging" but she likes shedding her inhibitions for film roles.

Johansson also believes that her body is "unremarkable" and she does not see herself as sexy.

"It's an OK body, I wouldn't say it's particularly remarkable though," she told Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014. "I don't like my thighs, my mid section."

Johansson said she never puts on a sexy face, "so I don't know what it means to act seductively."

"You have to be totally without judgement, and it's sort of liberating," she said of filming sex scenes. "It's challenging. You have to stay in the moment."

The star of Lucy and Under the Skin also spoke to Walters about forming relationships.

"I think being in a committed relationship takes work. It's very easy to leave a situation when it gets uncomfortable. It's challenging. But when it works it's really worth it," she said.

Johansson and journalist Romain Dauriac married in October of this year. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Rose Dorothy, the previous month.

The actress was previously married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011.

With Holding Out for a Hero continuing tonight, Monday December 15, at 9:00pm on RTÉ2, here's a sneak peek at host Neil Delamere's take on Fionn MacCumhaill, the Salmon of Knowledge and the Fianna.

"Neil is put through the gruelling warrior tests as described in the thousand-year-old stories about Fionn and the Fianna - he'll have to jump over and under branches and be chased through the forest by some very hairy men, before he's buried in the ground and a load of spears get chucked at him in a prime example of some good old-fashioned, third-century fun."

Mark Hamill says Star Wars is about new characters

Mark Hamill has discussed his absence from the recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer by praising new characters.

The Luke Skywalker star told Yahoo! that the recent teaser was designed to introduce new characters Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

"This is about the new generation of characters; I think that's the most important thing. It's the opening act of a whole new approach to the storytelling," Hamill explained.

"I never thought I'd be involved in it again, period," he continued. "And then when George [Lucas] said that they wanted to do more, I rightly assumed that it wouldn't be our story, because we had a beginning, a middle, and an end."

He added: "This must be our offspring and the current generation, with us there lending the kind of support that Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness did in the original.

"So no, that didn't surprise me. And I mean, I'm one of those people where I just think, 'Keep me out of it. I'll ruin it, I'm sure!' I'll show up and just ruin the whole thing."

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in cinemas on December 18 2015.

RTÉ TEN's TV highlights for today, December 14

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 14 Desember 2014 | 23.38

One Ocean, No Limits, RTÉ 2, 8.00pm
One Ocean: No Limits' follows a young Irish novice rower through the highs and lows of rowing unassisted as part of a crew of 6 across the vast Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Barbados.
Ocean Rowing is an extreme sport and from an endurance viewpoint, this feat of crossing the Atlantic by oar is similar to running over 100 marathons, back to back.
This is a documentary film about an extreme sports triumph – however, at its core, it is a human interest film that charts the experiences of a group of strangers forced into an extraordinary situation in an enclosed space crossing an ocean.

Sports Personality of The Year 2014, BBC One, 8.00pm
After another fantastic year in sport, Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan present the 2014 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year, live from Glasgow's Hydro Arena.
This star-studded event features some of the greatest names in world sport and ends with the presentation of the famous trophy, with the winner chosen by viewers on the night.
There are 10 contenders for the main award and picking a winner will be tricky. Glasgow hosted a memorable Commonwealth Games with golden glory for many home nations' competitors. In other sports, Rory McIlroy won two of golf's majors, Lewis Hamilton became Britain's record Grand Prix winner and Lizzy Yarnold struck Winter Olympics gold.
Seven other awards will be presented, made up of Team and Coach Of The Year, Young and Overseas Sports Personality, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement and the Helen Rollason award, given for inspirational achievement in the face of adversity.

The Moment of Truth, RTÉ One, 10.10pm
Tonight on the final episode of The Moment of Truth Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh meets Edward Horgan, a career soldier and a Commandant in the Irish Army who saw active peace-keeping duty in several war zones, including Cyprus and Sinai. What he witnessed disturbed him so much that, in retirement, he became a peace activist.
During the second Iraq War, he risked his family home to bring a case against the Irish Government for, as he saw it, compromising Irish neutrality by allowing the passage of American troops through Ireland.
In the process, he made himself a pariah among his former army comrades. Then, in 2004, the Kerry-born grandfather risked his life and liberty trying to arrest President George W Bush on Irish soil for conducting what Edward saw as an illegal war in Iraq. He was arrested, but never convicted and remains undeterred.

Lisa Kudrow reacts to Sony email leaks

Lisa Kudrow has reacted to the recent leaked emails from Sony executives saying people need to be accountable and responsible in their communication.

The Friends actress reckons that the string of emails between Sony executives which have recently been leaked are a lesson to avoid writing anything controversial.

Speaking to the Huffington Post she said: "How come I know you don't write anything you don't want broadcast in an email? How come I know that? Who's advising people?

"It doesn't matter how many times it says, 'This is confidential, meant for just between the sender and the recipient.'

"Why don't we know that there are no rules?

"Everything is broadcast and published. That's the part I just don't understand.

"I think we need to have more boundaries and accountability and a little personal responsibility for what we say."

One email thread that was released from the hackers that attacked Sony saw actress Angelina Jolie being labelled a "minimally-talented spoiled brat" by Sony producer Scott Rudin.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kevin Hart have also been criticised in email exchanges.
