Love/Hate star in new BBC drama

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 20 Maret 2013 | 23.37

Love/Hate star Charlie Murphy (Siobhán) is among the cast of the BBC's epic period drama series The Village.

The series, the BBC says, charts "the life and turbulent times of one English village across the whole of the 20th century".

"The camera never leaves the village. Births, deaths, love and betrayal, great political events, upheavals in national identity, ways of working, rules kept and rebellions made, sex, religion, class, the shaping of modern memory - all refracted through the lives of the villagers and the village..."

Murphy plays Martha Lane in the series, and the cast also includes Maxine Peake and John Simm.

Written by BAFTA winner Peter Moffat (Silk, Criminal Justice), The Village will begin on BBC One in the coming weeks, broadcast date yet to be announced.

Watch Good Vibrations clip

A new clip from the award-winning Belfast music biopic Good Vibrations has been released, and you can watch it on RTÉ TEN.

Directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn, and starring Richard Dormer, Jodie Whittaker, Liam Cunningham, Adrian Dunbar, Dylan Moran and Killian Scott, Good Vibrations tells the story of the legendary Belfast record shop of the same name and its founder, Terri Hooley.

You can watch the clip by clicking the link on your left.

The synopsis of the movie reads: "Terri Hooley is a radical, rebel and music-lover in 1970s Belfast, when the bloody conflict known as the Troubles shuts down his city.

"As all his friends take sides and take up arms, Terri opens a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe and calls it Good Vibrations.

"Through it he discovers a compelling voice of resistance in the city's nascent underground punk scene.

"Galvanising the young musicians into action, he becomes the unlikely leader of a motley band of kids and punks who join him in his mission to create a new community, an Alternative Ulster, to bring his city back to life."

In cinemas from Friday March 29, Good Vibrations won the Best Irish Feature award at the Galway Film Fleadh and the Audience Award at the Belfast Film Festival, with designer Maggie Donnelly winning the Costume award at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards.

The Rock addresses Star Wars rumours

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson caused a stir on social networking sites over the weekend when reports circulated indicating that the wrestler-turned-actor wanted a part in the next Star Wars movie.

Speaking exclusively to RTÉ TEN at the press launch for his new action adventure G.I Joe Retaliation, Dwayne set the record straight.

He said: "It's just funny how things morph into this. Somebody asked me if I was interested in that and I was like 'yeah of course'. Now I'm sitting here and we're talking to Ireland about me being in Star Wars. That would be cool.

"I grew up watching Star Wars and what I said was 'so you can imagine how cool it was for me to get the call about G.I Joe'. It would essentially be like if George Lucas called me or J.J. Abrams called me and said 'hey I want you to be in Star Wars'. It just has that deep rooted connection."

He joked: "So how are we going to do it? You're going to call Abrams and you're going to tell him The Rock should be in Star Wars."

G.I Joe Retaliation hits cinemas on March 27.

Skehan launches sow & grow campaign

TV cook Donal Skehan has launched the second annual sow & grow campaign.

The campaign, in association with innocent drinks and GIY, aims to get children around the country sowing and growing in classrooms and youth groups through a fun, free, learning experience.

Skehan spoke to RTÉ TEN about the campaign, saying: "It's a fantastic campaign to get kids into where their food comes from and the whole campaign is about teaching kids how to grow their own vegetables.

"It really is a wonderfully educational thing for them to be a part of. We've had great results with them last year, they really got into the whole idea of growing their own and eating what they've produced as well."

Teachers and youth group leaders can apply online at www.innocentdrinks.ie/sowandgrow for a sow & grow kit which contains everything a group of 30 youngsters will need to get growing.

Each pack includes 30 growing pots, seeds, soil and growing guides to educate the children on the benefits of planting seeds which they will see grow into plants.

Skehan added of the campaign: "It really is a fantastic campaign because it gets the whole class involved, it's not just touching on one person. It's really getting a whole community together and growing, so in my opinion, it's fantastic."

RTÉ not commenting on Sheehan reports

Reports today suggest that Robert Sheehan's character Darren is set to make a return in the fourth series of Dublin crime drama Love/Hate when it airs on RTÉ later this year.

In the concluding episode of the last series, Darren was seen by nearly a million viewers being gunned down in broad daylight on a Dublin side street by Lizzie (Caoilfhionn Dunne), in revenge for her murdered brother.

However, a report in today's Herald newspaper claims that Sheehan will make a return as Darren in the new season of the hugely-popular drama after the actor was photographed filming scenes in Clontarf, north Dublin.

A spokesperson for RTÉ said, "We are not commenting on the photos of Robbie Sheehan. We don't want to ruin any storylines for loyal Love/Hate fans."

There was an outcry among fans of the show when Darren was left lying in a pool of blood at the end of the final episode of series three last December but it was never made clear if the pretty boy in Nidge's gang was dead or not.
