Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones are set to depart NBC's comedy Parks and Recreation in the middle of the new sixth season.

Lowe joined the show in season two while Jones has been part of the cast since the beginning.

Buzzfeed says the pair will leave the show after the 13th episode with Lowe tweeting his thanks to showrunner Mike Schur saying, "Thanks @KenTremendous It has literally been a world class pleasure. I'm sure Chris will take great care of . . . Ann Perkins!!"

Amy Poehler heads the cast in the comedy about a group of government employees which has attracted critical acclaim as well as being a launching pad for its stars.

Jones, daughter of music producer Quincy Jones, recently appeared in Celeste & Jesse Forever which she co-wrote with writing partner Will McCormack and the pair have signed a two-year deal with Warner Bros.

Lowe was recently seen on the big screen in HBO's acclaimed Liberace film, Behind the Candelabra.

The Great Escape set for BBC re-make

Classic WWII movie and Christmas TV perennial The Great Escape is to be remade for television by the BBC.

According to Broadcast the 1963 film - boasting an all-star cast that included Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Richard Attenborough, and based on the book of the same name by Paul Brickhill - will form the basis of a new TV drama.

Brickhill's original novel, loosely adapted for the big-screen, was a factual account of a mass escape in 1944 by Allied troops from Prisoner of War camp Stalag Luft III in Nazi Germany.

The new serial is being developed by the BBC in partnership with GK-TV and Open Circle - the latter currently owning the rights to The Great Escape.

Sarah Michelle Gellar up for Buffy movie

Sarah Michelle Gellar has admitted that she would be tempted to star in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.

The actress also told E! Online that, although it was unlikely for the much-loved Joss Whedon fantasy series to make it back to the big screen, she would jump at it if the script was up to scratch.

"Joss and I always talk about [a movie]," she said. "But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film.

"And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time. If there was ever the right story, we would do it."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was originally a 1992 movie starring Kristy Swanson in the title role. Joss Whedon then adapted it into the hit TV show that ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003.

Plans for a movie remake were announced in November 2011, before writer Whit Anderson quit the project, leaving it in limbo.

Meanwhile, Sarah Michelle Gellar will star opposite Robin Williams in the upcoming CBS comedy The Crazy Ones, which is due in September.

Blue Velvet star Isabella Rossellini is to appear on US TV network NBC's new drama The Blacklist.

Blue Velvet star Isabella Rossellini is to appear on US TV network NBC's new drama The Blacklist.

James Spader stars in the show as Raymond "Red" Reddington, a notorious criminal who teams up with a rookie FBI agent (played by Megan Boone) to hunt down baddies on his "Blacklist".

According to The Wrap, 61-year-old Rossellini will play human rights campaigner Floriana Campo, who becomes the target of an assassin. Jane Alexander (Kramer vs Kramer) will appear as a judge in the same episode.

Rossellini is best known for her film work, including appearances in David Lynch's 1986 film Blue Velvet and 1992's Death Becomes Her. TV credits include 30 Rock, Alias and a cameo as herself on Friends.

The Blacklist begins on NBC in September and will follow on UK satellite channel Sky Living.

One Direction's Louis signs to football club

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has been signed by Doncaster Rovers Football Club.

The popstar will serve as a non-contract player at his hometown club for the 2013/2014 season in aid of the children's hospice Bluebell Wood.

The football club announced the news on their Twitter page, writing: "One Direction star @Louis_Tomlinson has signed for #drfc to raise vital money for local charity @BluebellWoodCH".

The club later added: "Louis will not be making any money from this, his sole aim is to raise funds and awareness for this charity for which he is a patron."

Tomlinson, who will wear the number 28 shirt, said: "This has always been a childhood dream for me. I feel very honoured to have been asked to sign for Rovers and being able to help both the club and the amazing charity Bluebell Wood is what it's all about."

The singer previously played for the club in a charity match last season.

Resplendent in a beautifully lapelled baby blue safari suit, crisp white shirt and pink tie, Alan confesses his fondness for Ireland in much the same way he once did when he explained his love U2's song Sunday Bloody Sunday.   

In his heartfelt greeting, Norwich's most-liked personality passes on his condolences after the shooting dead of the Celtc Tiger and goes on to describe the Irish diaspora as "a postive disease".

Alpha Papa opens in Irish cinemas on August 7th and in the rather excellent comedy/action movie we see Alan becoming the hero (kind of) when his station, North Norwich Digital, is held siege by Pat Farrell, a disgruntled ex-employee played by Colm Meaney.

The 53-year-old has been on the show for eight years and is expected to start shooting her final scenes this week. She will appear on the show until October.

Wright said in a statement "It has been a huge privilege to play Jean Slater these last eight years.

"I treasure the viewer's care and love for the character not only through her hard times but through all the laughter too.

"I will miss EastEnders enormously, but it is time for me to step back and enjoy other acting challenges.

"I would love Jean to return to The Square one day, so let's hope this is not goodbye, but au revoir."

It is reported that Jean's departure from the show is connected to the new character Ollie with whom Jean has developed a close friendship.

And no wonder - he presented her with some fresh rhubarb in the Queen Vic last night!

Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers has been given the all-clear in his two-year battle with prostate cancer.

Rodgers shared the good news on Twitter last night (July 30th) but he also sounded a note of cautious when he added, "I never celebrate much when I get an All Clear because in 6 months I'll go through the same drama."

The 60-year-old guitarist and producer who has worked with Madonna, David Bowie and, more recently, French disconauts Daft Punk has documented his battle with cancer on his blog.

In an interview earlier this year, Rodgers said that his work on Daft Punk's new album Random Access Memories helped him overcome his illness. And he says that scoring the biggest-selling single of the year in the UK with Get Lucky may be the sweetest hit song of his life.

"I think this particular experience rates very high, because two years ago I was stricken with cancer just right out of the clear blue sky. I had no indication it was coming on, I was what is called asymptomatic and when they found it, it was diagnosed as incredibly aggressive," he said.

"So I went from having no symptoms to 'you can die any moment and you have to take this very seriously'. It just didn't make any sense, it was so completely insane.

"And from that moment I decided I was going to work as much as I could, play as many concerts, do as many records, because that's what I live for. I said to myself, if I had a reason to get up the next day, hopefully I'll get up the next day because I just love to do my job."

He added, "Maybe this could feel more special than any other Number 1 record simply because of that. I was facing life and death issues and then to get something so rewarding as a Number 1 record is pretty amazing."

Rodgers, who is back in Ireland with Chic to play a short nationwide tour in October, also confirmed a "lost Chic album" had been discovered, and would get a release.
