The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, said of Song of the Sea's nomination: "I would like to offer huge congratulations to Cartoon Saloon, and to its director Tomm Moore, for securing this very prestigious nomination. Tomm previously received recognition for his work on The Secret of Kells, which was of course nominated for an Oscar five years ago.

"This is yet another significant achievement for the Irish animation sector, which has gone from strength to strength in recent years. It is an extremely dynamic element of the Irish audiovisual industry, and, as this nomination shows, it is making a big impact on the global animation scene."

Hozier wins Eurosonic's Top Award

2fm and 2Xm presenter Dan Hegarty is in Norway for the biggest music festival in Europe, Eurosonic where Hozier was awarded the EBBA Award.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN, Hegarty said: "Eurosonic 2015 started off like everyone hopes it is going to continue; The London-based Limerick band Sisters played what's best described as a 'stormer' of a gig to open their Eurosonic account.

"Other Irish names that were in action included All The Luck in the World at De Spieghel venue, and Soak who played to a packed Grand Theatre. Queues to get into her show stretched all the way down to the ground floor of this three story Theatre!

"Kormac's Big Band will be looking back on what was a very well received show. 10 hours have passed since they left the stage, and my ears are still buzzing!"

Speaking about the EBBA Award, he said: "Ten European artists received EBBA's (European Border Breaker Awards) at the ceremony hosted by Jools Holland last night at the stunning Stadsschouwburg theatre.

"Hozier wasn't able to attend unfortunately, but from talking to many people at the event, his two shows from last year's Eurosonic Festival are still etched into peoples's minds."

Tune into Dan Hegarty's Eurosonic report on Eoghan McDermott's show tonight at 8pm on 2fm and Listen to Hegarty's The Alternative Monday to Thursday: RTE 2fm: 1am | RTE 2xm: 10am to 1pm. For more on Eurosonic click here rte.ie/2fm/eurosonic/

RTÉ TEN's TV picks for Wednesday, January 14

There's a storm a-brewin' so you may be staying in tonight. We have cooking, crime and crash-bang-wallop as our selections for Wednesday.

Neven Maguire: Home Chef, 7:30pm, RTÉ One

The smiliest man with a saucepan returns for a new series where the emphasis is on "quick, family-friendly dishes" that can be made in half-an-hour or less. That'll be us in front of the telly, then. On the menu for episode one are Crispy Goat's Cheese with an Apple and Hazelnut Salad, Sea Bass with Irish Bacon, and Pork Meatballs with Coriander and Coconut. As part of one of Neven's time-honoured 'savoury safaris' there'll also be a visit to the Aviva Stadium to watch 80 chefs at work.

Blue Bloods, 9:00pm, RTÉ2

The 'tache is back and season five opens with a double bill. In Partners, Danny must find the cartel responsible for injuring Baez and hijacking a drugs seizure that was due for incineration. Up at head office Frank has to deal with a lieutenant with a great record whose actions are now causing problems for the force. In episode two, Forgive and Forget, Jamie stands up for a fellow officer who has been ostracised for testifying against her partner, while Erin and Danny's relationship is put under strain by a homicide.

Blue Bloods

Transformers, 9:00pm, E4

Sniff away about sub-standard sequels, but 2007's opening movie is as likeable as it is loud and a hoot for anyone with fond memories of the robots in disguise back in the mid-Eighties. The valiant Autobots and their arch-enemies the Decepticons renew hostilities on earth, and teenager Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) really does have the weight of the world on his shoulders. This being a Michael Bay (Armageddon, The Rock) film, every bang is bigger than the last and every set piece is more audacious, and throughout you'll marvel at just what all the people behind the scenes achieved - the CGI of the Autobots and the Decepticons is so seamless that you wonder if they socialised in their trailers between takes or kept to themselves.
