Mick Flannery has been making inroads into the lucrative German market with the release of his third album Red to Blue and a series of live dates.
The dry-witted Blarney singer, who has been living in Berlin for the past month, said that Germany has been surprisingly receptive to his music.
"The gigs are going unexpectedly well," he said. "I'm playing small enough places and some of them are selling out. What is wrong with these people?"
Speaking to RTÉ TEN from a shopping mall in Hamburg ("I've just bought a Neil Young album and a John Lee Hooker album for €4."), Flannery said he's also been making television appearances but he denied that he's taken up a new health regime after being spotted jogging in Berlin recently.
"Who told you that? I went jogging once but my legs seized up the next day," he said. "That was enough for me. I didn't want to risk a heart attack through jogging so I'll be doing it the usual way with a bottle of whiskey."
Flannery is due back in Ireland for a nationwide tour this November and December and he's also set to release his new single, Boston.
The Winter Irish Tour dates are:
Thursday November 22 - Olympia Theatre, Dublin
Friday November 23 - Olympia Theatre, Dublin
Friday December 14 - Dolan's Warehouse, Limerick
Saturday December 15 - Róisín Dubh, Galway
Sunday December 16 - INEC Killarney
Friday December 28 - Róisín Dubh, Galway
Saturday December 29 - Spirit Store, Dundalk
Sunday December 30 - The Forum, Waterford
Monday December 31 - Cork Opera House
