Elton John has lent his support to a cover version of his 1971 classic Tiny Dancer by a super group of Irish performers in aid of a four-year old Claregalway girl who has a rare form of childhood cancer.

A 300-strong chorus of singers and performers including Paddy Casey, Mary Black and Mundy have come together to support Lily-Mae Morrison who has Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a rare and extremely aggressive childhood cancer of the nervous system.

John has tweeted his support for the song and urged his followers to buy the single which was released on iTunes last night and has already hit No 1 in Ireland. A statement on John's official website says: "A beautiful version of Elton and Bernie (Taupin)'s song Tiny Dancer has been recorded in Ireland as a way to raise money for the care of Lily-Mae Morrison, a four year-old Irish girl who has neuroblastoma."

Now the people behind Tiny Dancer: A Song for Lily Mae want to keep the song at the top spot for Christmas.

The chorus of over 300 people were drawn, in the most part, from AIMS musical societies from all Ireland, to sing with artists including Casey, O'Rourke, Black, Mal Touhy of The Riptide Movement, Mundy, The Pale, John Spillane, Brian Hogan (Kila & Preacher's Son), Mickey Joe Harte, Tom Dunne, Camille O'Sullivan, and Lily-Mae's father, Leighton Morrison who like Lily Mae's mum, Judith Sibley, is a professional ballet dancer.
