Dallas star Larry Hagman has died, aged 81.
Hagman, who returned as J.R. in a new series of Dallas this year, died on Friday afternoon due to complications from his battle with cancer, according to a statement from the family provided by Warner Bros, producer of Dallas.
"Larry was back in his beloved hometown of Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved the most," the family said. "Larry's family and closest friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday."
The original Dallas ran from 1978-1991, dominating the Nielsen ratings, inspiring a prime-time soap craze, and giving rise to "Who Shot J.R.?" mania.
Hagman earned a pair of Emmy nominations for playing JR in 1980 and 1981 and four Golden Globe nominations throughout the show's run.
He is survived by his wife Maj Axelsson and their adult children Heidi and Preston.
