Dublin-born actor Michael Gambon is set to get the top honour at the British Independent Film Awards which will be held in London on December 9th.
The BBC reports that Gambon will be presented at the event with the Richard Harris Award which was introduced in 2002 to recognise an outstanding contribution to British film by an actor.
Past winners have included John Hurt, Bob Hoskins, Daniel Day-Lewis, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes in 2011. Gambon took on the role of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise in 2004 after the death of Richard Harris. He has also worked in a career that has spanned six decades in television, theatre, radio and film.
He is currently on stage in London's West End starring in All That Fall at the Arts Theatre and will next be seen on film in Dustin Hoffman's Quartet, which will be released in January.
Gambon was born in Cabra in Dublin during the Second World War and moved with his family to England when he was five.
Also set to be honoured at the event is Jude Law who is picking up the award for an actor, director, writer or producer who has helped to focus the international spotlight on the UK. This award was previously won by Michael Caine, Helen Mirren and Kenneth Branagh.
