Boyle native Chris O'Dowd says that he used to be slagged off for his country accent but now he intends to use it in all his acting roles.
The 32-year-old actor, who wed TV personality Dawn Porter in August, told OK! Magazine: ''I remember when I first went to university in Dublin, because I'm a country boy I used to get teased for my country accent, so the idea that it's playing well in Hollywood I find to be funny.
''I think I'm going to keep my Irish accent forever now in any movie I make, because chicks dig it and that's all I care about now! Now that I've been in a romantic comedy like Bridesmaids, I just want to impress women!''
O'Dowd also explained that his parents expected ''very little'' of him growing up and he has defied all expectations by making a name for himself in comedy.
''I was the youngest in a long line of underachievers so there was no expectation and when I dropped out of college and then dropped out of drama school, no one really batted an eyelid. They were like, yeah of course you did, that is what we do. No, but seriously, they were very supportive.''
The star and creator of hit Sky comedy Moone Boy can be seen shortly opposite Megan Fox in This is 40 and he says that his busy working schedule doesn't allow him to come back to Ireland enough.
"It's not as often as I would like. I come from a big family and I seem to go back for religious ceremonies so it's a lot of christenings and weddings. I go back about four times a year to brush up on my accent."
