Brendan O'Carroll says he's ruled out a fourth series of Mrs Brown's Boys so he can concentrate on bringing his comic creation to the big screen.
According to a spokesman for O'Carroll quoted in The Irish Independent, "Brendan always said he wanted to make just three series of Mrs Brown so it's up to him if it comes back, but there will be no fourth series of Mrs Brown's Boys on TV in 2014."
There's even a suggestion that the comedian, who managed to get nearly a million viewers in Ireland for the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special and over eight million in the UK, wants the sitcom about the irascible mammy to follow in the hallowed footsteps of Father Ted which only ran for three series on Channel 4, and Fawlty Towers, which had just two, years apart, on BBC.
However, 57-year-old O'Carroll is said to be committed to making a Mrs Brown Christmas special each year until 2015.
The €4.5m Mrs Brown movie is provisionally titled Mrs Brown, De Filum and begins shooting in August. It should fare a little better than Agnes' first foray onto the big screen when she was played by Angelica Huston in back in 1999.
In news that may not gladden the heart of Jonathan Ross, Mrs Brown's Boys has been nominated in Best Sitcom category in tonight's UK's National TV Awards (ITV, 7.30) and O'Carroll will be presenting an award at the bash.
