Affleck, Day-Lewis' night at BAFTAs

Ben Affleck's political thriller Argo and Daniel Day-Lewis were among the big winners at the BAFTAs in London on Sunday night.

Argo was named Best Film, with Affleck taking the award for Best Director and William Goldenberg winning Best Editor for his work on the film.

Day-Lewis was named Best Actor for his performance in Lincoln, while 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva was named Best Actress for her performance in Amour.

Amour was also named Best Foreign Film.

Skyfall was named Best British Film and composer Thomas Newman took the Best Original Music award for his score for the movie.

There were Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards for Christoph Waltz and Anne Hathaway for their performances in Django Unchained and Les Misérables respectively.

Django Unchained's director, Quentin Tarantino, won the award for Best Original Screenplay, with Best Adapted Screenplay going to David O Russell for Silver Linings Playbook.

Les Misérables won a further three awards in the technical categories: Best Make-Up and Hair (Lisa Westcott), Best Sound (Simon Hayes, Andy Nelson, Mark Paterson, Jonathan Allen, Lee Walpole, John Warhurst) and Best Production Design (Eve Stewart, Anna Lynch-Robinson).

Searching for Sugar Man was named Best Documentary.

The Imposter's Bart Layton and Dimitri Doganis shared the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

There were two awards for Life of Pi: Best Special Visual Effects (Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer, Donald R Elliott) and Best Cinematography (Claudio Miranda).

The award for Costume Design went to Anna Karenina's Jacqueline Durran.

The award for Best Animated Film went to Brave, with The Making of Longbird Best Short Animation and Swimmer Best Short Film.

Actress Juno Temple was honoured with the EE Rising Star Award, as voted for by the public, with producer Tessa Ross the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema award.

Alan Parker was the recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship.
