The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is in the studio today, Tuesday February 26, recording composer Patrick Cassidy's score for Calvary, the new film which reunites Brendan Gleeson with The Guard director John Michael McDonagh.
Speaking ahead of recording the Calvary score, Mayo-born, Los Angeles-based Cassidy said: "The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is an excellent orchestra with a great attitude - the musicians really give it their all."
He added: "And Calvary is a very good movie, very inspiring - that lends itself to creating good music!"
The Priest (Brendan Gleeson) in Calvary is described as "the flipside to The Guard's Sergeant Gerry Boyle." The film also stars Marie Josée Crozé, Isaach De Bankolé, Aidan Gillen, Domhnall Gleeson, Dylan Moran, Chris O'Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Pat Shortt and David Wilmot.
Calvary will be released later this year.
Composer Cassidy's CV includes the films Hannibal, Veronica Guerin, King Arthur, Layer Cake, Che Guevara and Kingdom of Heaven, along with classical works The Children of Lir and Famine Remembrance, which received its European premiere with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
He began work on the score for Calvary last year, with director McDonagh sending him examples of music he liked, including the soundtrack to Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
