Bryan Singer has opened up about his departure from the X-Men franchise.
The 47-year-old filmmaker, who directed the first two instalments in the X-Men series, decided not to return for the third outing, in favour of taking on Superman Returns.
Speaking to the Metro about his decision to work on new projects, Singer said: "I've never told anybody this, but I found the whole letting go of the characters for X-Men 3 so traumatising that a friend, who shall remain nameless, had to take me to a secret location and show me the reels so far. Just so I could make my peace with it."
Singer, who recently worked on Jack the Giant Slayer, is now set to rejoin the X-Men series for the first time since X2, with X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men: Days Of Future Past is marked for release on 18 July 2014.
