Michael Rother, a former member of Kraftwerk and founding member of hugely influential German band NEU!, will play his first ever Irish concert later this month.
The guitarist and multi-instrumentalist will play The Village in Dublin on April 29th. Rother is a key figure of the innovative German music scene of the early 1970s and has been cited as a huge influence by David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, DEVO, Sonic Youth, Stereolab, U2, Autechre, Radiohead, and Primal Scream.
As Iggy said, "Rother found a way to free himself from the tyranny of stupid blues and rock to create a beautiful pastoral psychedelicism."
Rother joined Kraftwerk when he was 20 in 1971 and went on to form the legendary band NEU! and Harmonia before releasing nine acclaimed solo albums.
Since the official re-release of the NEU! albums in 2001, Rother has collaborated with the likes of John Frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer, Secret Machines, Benjamin Curtis of School of Seven Bells, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
For his first ever concert in Ireland, the native of Hamburg will be joined by Berlin trio Camera to play songs by NEU!, as well as selected tracks by Harmonia and his solo works.
