Victoria Smurfit has been cast in a dark indie comedy alongside Natalie Imbruglia and Amy Smart.

The Irish actress has landed her first major movie role in the film adaptation of The Unkindness of Ravens.

The film is based on the novel about a troubled married couple hosting a group of friends at a Fourth of July weekend reunion, whose lives are changed forever.

She will play Emma, one of the close friends of Smart and her on-screen husband Justin Leonard.

Smurfit has also landed roles in the crimes series Missing and in the pilot of the new TV show Dracula.

As well as her acting work, Smurfit has written the script for a show alongside Holly Sorensen, which has been picked up by ABC for a pilot.

The Independent quotes the star as saying: "It's been kind of amazing. I wrote up half a book before we moved over to LA and I showed it to a friend of mine here. She liked it and said 'you're a writer, keep going, keep going'. So I did."
