Sideways star Paul Giamatti has landed a role in series four of Downton Abbey.

Sideways star Paul Giamatti has landed a role in series four of Downton Abbey.

The 46-year-old actor is set to play Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) and the son of Martha (Shirley MacLaine).

TVLine report that Giamatti's character is a "maverick playboy".

Paul joins fellow Season 4 newbies Harriet Walters, Nigel Harman and Tom Cullen.

Giamatti earned an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his title role in HBO's miniseries John Adams.

Downton Abbey's fourth series returns to the UK in the autumn.
