Horslips, Love/Hate star Aiden Gillen, Shane MacGowan and actress Fiona Shaw are among the Irish artists who will pay tribute to Radiators From Space and Pogues' singer/songwriter Phil Chevron at a special testimonial concert in Dublin this August.
Chevron (56) recently announced that the cancer he has been battling since 2007 has returned and is "incurable and terminal".
Using the time-honoured football tradition of giving a departing player a send-off with a Testimonial, many of Chevron's friends and colleagues have come together for a special tribute concert.
Also confirmed for the show on August 24th at Dublin's Olympia Theatre are Luka Bloom, Declan O'Rourke, Brush Shiels, Patrick McCabe, Gavin Friday, Paul Brady, author Joseph O'Connor, Paul Cleary, Mary Coughlan, Fiachna Ó Braonáin and Liam Ó Maonlaí, Roddy Doyle, The Radiators from Space, and fellow PogueTerry Woods.
They will perform their own work as well as selections from Chevron's own songbook, including some items never heard before in public.Tickets for the gig, priced €30.00, are on sale now.
Chevron is a founding member of Dublin punk act The Radiators From Space who released the acclaimed albums Ghostown in 1979 and Sound City Beat in 2012. He joined The Pogues as a full time member in 1984 and wrote some of their greatest songs including Thousands are Sailing.
In recent years, Chevron had been back touring with The Pogues and he continues his involvement in theatre production. He has also become, in effect, The Pogues' unofficial spokesperson and personally oversaw the re-mastering and re-release of their entire back catalogue on CD.
