Walsh was awarded €500,000 in damages in November 2012 after The Sun published a story alledging that he had sexually assualted a man in a Dublin nightclub.
Speaking in this Thursday's episode of Print and Be Damned, TV3's series on the Irish newspaper industry, the 61-year-old X Factor judge and pop manager says: "Everyone told me don't take on The Sun, don't take on the Murdoch empire but I had to - they wrote lies about me.
"I was at Dublin Airport. I was going out to do the Alan Carr show and I got a phone call from The Sun in England, a guy called Gordon Smart, who I know and I said Gordon this is not true. You could be nicked for this mate, I always remember saying that, you could get nicked for this mate.
"They put it on the front page of the English Sun and then it was the Irish Sun. Then it was on every other newspaper. I'm watching Sky News and it's X Factor judge in, you know, sex scandal.
"People always think there's no smoke without fire even though the story was 100 per cent lies, I felt so bad about it."
"They put it on their front page - they just want to sell stories. They want a sensationalist story every day. They just want to sell papers, they don't care about people's lives or reputations. They don't care."
Asked by Print and Be Damned presenter Donal MacIntyre how he feels about newspapers after his experiences, Walsh says: "I still read newspapers but I always say to myself, I wonder if this is true? I know what they did to me. They could do the same thing to anybody else. It makes me very wary and very guarded."
