Katy Perry has been publicly criticised for her use of exotic animals by PETA.

The animal rights organisation claims the company that supplied the animals for the video shoot have a questionable track record.

Merrilee Burke, a spokeswoman for PETA, told the Daily Star, "The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the Roar video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001."

She continued, "It has been given a total of 13 citations during that time."

Burke also commented that by having those kinds of animals on the video shoot, the singer and crew were exposing them to stress.

"Animals used to entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods. They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations."
