On a River in Ireland, a film version of highly-acclaimed RTÉ nature series The Secret Life of the Shannon, has won three awards at the world's leading nature film festival.

The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, known as the Oscars of wildlife film-making, took place last night in Wyoming and Wicklow production company Crossing the Line saw off competition from 540 films including the BBC's Africa and Frozen Planet series and Disney's Chimpanzee feature to take the overall Grand Teton Best of Festival Award along with awards for Best Editing and Best Wildlife Habitat Program for On a River in Ireland.

Colin Stafford Johnson presented the two-part The Secret Life of the Shannon on RTÉ One last May as part of the RTÉ Goes Wild Season. Stafford Johnson travelled the 340km-long river in his canoe to reveal varied habitats and flora and fauna.

Filmed over two years, the series features animal behaviour captured with the very latest camera technologies and brings a number of firsts to Irish natural history filmmaking including Daubenton's bats filmed hunting in slow motion; whooper swans filmed in extreme close-up and a kingfisher fishing underwater.

This is the second festival in a row in which Crossing The Line has taken home the best-in-show award at Jackson Hole.
