MÃ©av announces Sugar Club gig

Singer Méav, whose debut album The Calling was released this summer, will play a special gig at the Sugar Club, Dublin on Wednesday October 23.

Reprising the diverse songs from her album, Méav and her band will take the audience on a journey across Ireland, England, Brittany, Galicia and America with classic and new songs in the folk tradition. The concert will feature the title track The Calling and current single Listen, Listen, as well as fresh interpretations of The First time Ever I Saw Your Face and Black is the Colour.

Raised in a musical family in Dublin, Méav (NI Mhaolchatha) was educated through Irish and studied classical voice, harp and piano while simultaneously studying law in Trinity College. Her professional career was established with Riverdance, when she performed at the US premiere in Radio City New York. She went on to star in Lord of the Dance and has toured widely as a soloist in Europe, North America, Japan and Korea.

Méav's three US tours as the guest of the RTE Concert Orchestra led to the release of three Méav solo albums including Celtic Journey with EMI, which debuted in the Billboard World Music top 100. In 2004, Méav was invited to be one of the five founding members of female supergroup Celtic Woman, who have sold six million records in the US and worldwide. Remarkably, every album Méav recorded with Celtic Woman reached number one in the Billboard World Music Charts.

Among her many other illustrious achievements, Méav performed Where the Sunbeams Play in the Disney movie Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure. She also devised the Love Theme for the BBC TV series The Aristocrats.
