Norah Casey: "I wanted to run away"

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 20 Oktober 2013 | 23.37

Broadcaster and businesswoman Norah Casey has spoken about her decision to step down as CEO of her publishing company, Harmonia.

Two years after the death of her husband, Richard Hannaford, Casey told Brendan O'Connor on last night's Saturday Night Show about her future plans.

The Dragons' Den judge said that going back into the media is a "good plan" for her, while insisting that her brother, Ciaran Casey, will be able to give Harmonia the "care and attention it deserves."

Harmonia produces magazines such as Irish Tatler, U Magazine, Women's Way, and Food & Wine and Casey admitted that she needed to find someone that could "love it every day."

"I took a big decision when I stood back in the summer. I really wanted to be sure that going back into the business was right for me. Harmonia needs someone to love it every day. I have a brilliant team and we kind of patched it up. It was good. But I needed to make some longer term decisions."

She added: "I wanted to sell the house. I wanted to run away. But I made no decisions for a year. Then I pulled back in July. I came off Newstalk and RTÉ Cork.

"I just had a long hard think about things. I really enjoyed doing the media side of things. I used to do it in my twenties. After I was a nurse, I trained as a journalist.

"I think going back into the media is a good plan for me. My brother Ciaran, who is great, is coming in the run the business on November 4th. He'll love it. I know he will. He'll give it the care and attention it deserves."
