Bressie has revealed that he is giving up his Christmas dinner and the associated festivities as he seeks to fulfil his dream of becoming an Ironman triathlete.
The singer and Voice of Ireland coach said: "I have decided to spend the entire festive season completing a 14-day training camp at Club La Santa, Lanzarote, which is the world's number one sport and active holiday resort."
"I will be nowhere near the festive party scene here. Christmas this year is about relocating to Club La Santa, sticking to my training programme and getting my body into the best possible shape. I am 100% committed to becoming an Ironman," he continued.
This week, Bressie began an 18-month training programme which will see him clock up over 1,000 hours to prepare for a 3.8 km swim, 180km bike ride and full 42.2km marathon.
"If I can complete an Ironman that will be the ultimate achievement for me," he said.
"It will mean way more than anything I have achieved as a musician or as a television personality. It is an escape from all of that and it's something just for me."
Bressie, who is now a brand ambassador for Club La Santa, plans to take part in a half Ironman in Austria and five short course marathons in Ireland next summer before his 2015 Ironman in Lanzarote.
Having spoken about overcoming his own mental health issues, Bressie hopes his Ironman preparations will inspire others to use sport to benefit their own mental health.
"This is my medication. Ironman is a new arena for me and fitness is the one thing that seems to work for me," he said.
"... with mental health problems the thing that scares you most is that you cannot control your mind and that it will control you. Taking on the Ironman is my way of taking control and doing something just for me."
He added: "As a musician, I can't control whether people will like my music no more than I can control how people will perceive me as a TV personality.
"But this is in my hands: I can control the type of training and amount of training that I do and having that control is good for my mental health."
