Fassbender among BAFTA nominees

12 Years a Slave star Michael Fassbender is among the nominees for this year's BAFTAs, with the film receiving 10 nominations in total.

Gravity leads this year's shortlist with 11 nominations, including Best Film, Best Actress (Sandra Bullock) and Best Director (Alfonso Cuarón).

12 Year's a Slave is another nominee for Best Film, with its director, Steve McQueen, and Fassbender's co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong'o also nominated.

Other films to receive multiple nominations include American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Philomena, Saving Mr Banks and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Based on the book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by Martin Sixsmith, Philomena tells the true story of an Irishwoman's search for her lost son.

Nominated for the Outstanding Debut award are Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, who wrote Good Vibrations.

It tells the true story of Terri Hooley, who ran a record shop in Belfast at the height of the Troubles.

The winners will be announced in London on Sunday February 16.
