Chris O'Dowd made his Broadway debut last night (March 19) alongside James Franco in the stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
Boyle native O'Dowd and Franco star as Lennie Small and George Milton respectively in the play, overseen by Tony Award-winning director Anna D Shapiro.
The classic 1937 novel tells the tale of migrant field workers George and Lennie, who travel through California looking for labour during the Great Depression.
O'Dowd and Franco recently spoke to The New York Times about working together for the first time and it appears the pair are having a great time both on and off the stage.
When asked what he thought Franco would be like O'Dowd responded: "He's 90 percent less stoned than I was expecting. Also, I knew he'd be really smart, but he's proven me wrong every day with that!
"I'd honestly heard great things about him. We have mutual friends, and everyone was like, 'You know what? He's an odd dude, but I think you'll really like him.'"
Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester also stars in the stage adaptation as the flirtatious wife of ranch owner's son Curley, posing a threat to O'Dowd's mentally-challenged character Lennie.
Jim Norton plays the role of Candy and Jim Parrack is Slim.
O'Dowd's wife, TV presenter and author Dawn O'Porter, tweeted about how proud she was of her husband treading the boards for the first time in New York. She said: "Pacing the house in LA knowing that @BigBoyler is about to perform the first preview of Of Mice and Men on Broadway tonight. #PROUD
Franco has also taken to Twitter to share his excitement of being part of the show.
Of Mice and Men opened for previews at the Longacre Theatre yesterday, with an official opening scheduled for April 16.
