The final book from Maeve Binchy, Chestnut Street, is set to be published next month.
The 400-page book is set on an imaginary street in Dublin and features a series of stories about the street's residents.
Binchy, who passed away two years ago, was thought to have left behind only one novel, A Week in Winter, when she died but according to a report in The Irish Independent, she had a store of unpublished stories, which she kept in case they might be useful some day.
Her husband Gordon Snell has now compiled these stories of the people of Chestnut Street into the new collection which will be published on April 24.
Among the characters are workaholic window cleaner Bucket Maguire and his son, Lilian, a generous girl who has a fiancé no one approves of, local gossip Melly, and fortune teller Madame Magic.
Gordon Snell says that A Week in Winter was Meave's last novel. "Maeve had just finished it when she died. Seeing it in print was bitter-sweet for me and all her family and friends, and readers. It was the last novel – there will be no more."
