Chris O'Dowd nominated for first Tony Award

Boyle-man Chris O'Dowd has earned his first Tony Award nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his role in Of Mice and Men.

34-year-old O'Dowd faces competition from Samuel Barnett (Twelfth Night), Bryan Cranston (All the Way), Mark Rylance (Richard III) and Tony Shalhoub (Act One) in the prestigious category.

Meanwhile, there's more good news for the Irish with Cork actress Sarah Greene receiving a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play category for her role in The Cripple of Inishmaan .

John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar is nominated for Best Play, while Martin McDonagh's play The Cripple of Inishmaan was nominated for Best Revival of a Play.

The Tony Awards take place on June 8th and will be hosted by Hugh Jackman.
