The annual Cycle Against Suicide charity race has officially begun following the launch live on RTÉ 2fm.
The charity event is taking place in conjunction with 2fm's Driveby show and presenter Colm Hayes told RTÉ TEN: "There was a huge turnout, treble the amount of cyclists than were here last year, there were up to a thousand here today. We're expecting over 7,000 cyclists over the three weeks.
"They're going to be cycling over 1,400 kilometres through the 32 counties this year as last year we only went through 26. There's going to be 20,000 young people attending the 29 events at every venue and this year we're really emphasising young people."
The event was launched live on The Tubridy Show by Ryan and in addition to Hayes, Cycle Against Suicide founder Jim Breen spoke about the plans ahead for the two week event.
The cycle will pass through 123 towns and villages and will feature 29 mental well-being events in schools, colleges and communities around the country.
