Dublin City Council have announced a brand new, city-wide festival celebrating the "eclectic and all encompassing nature" of music made and performed in Dublin.
MusicTown 2015 takes place in a variety of Dublin venues next year and will be launched on Sunday, April 13 with a free concert at The Round Room in Dublin's Mansion House featuring Lisa O'Neill, Bell X1, electronic duo Clu, RIAM Youth Quartet, and classical pianist Fionnuala Moynihan.
Glastonbury hit Weapons of Mass Percussion, and trad musicians Donal Lunny and Paddy Glackin are also on the bill for the free concert. Our Lady's Choral Society will sing Handel's Messiah and other works conducted by Proinnsías Ó'Duinn, marking the anniversary date of the first performance on Dublin's Fishamble Street in 1742.
Doors open at 7.00pm and there are a limited number of tickets available and booking can be made at www.musictown.ie
Speaking about MusicTown 2015, Dublin Lord Mayor Oisín Quínn says that for one week each year Dublin City Council plan to showcase "the vibrancy and range of all of Dublin's music."
