Singer songwriter Paul Simon has been confirmed as a guest speaker at a special tribute to late Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney which is being held in Dublin's National Concert Hall on April 23.
The night is being presented by Dublin City Council in association with Poetry Ireland as part of the Dublin: One City, One Book festival.
Speaking on Morning Ireland, head of Poetry Ireland Maureen Keneally said: "Paul Simon has been a longterm friend and admirer of Seamus Heaney and he took part in a tribute that was held in New York in November.
"Through the offices of Paul Muldoon, another great friend of Seamus Heaney, we've managed to secure that Paul Simon will be with us on the night."
Simon is one of a cast of twenty who will read and reminisce on the night including President Michael D. Higgins, Muldoon, Belfast poet Michael Longley, Paul Brady, and piper Liam O'Flynn, who collaborated with Heaney over the years.
Keneally added that the poems that will feature on the night have been chosen to reflect on the breath of Heaney's career. "The music will be music that he liked and which has a particular resonance with his work.
"It will be people who had a very close connection with his work. This is about the human chain that Seamus created."
Members of Heaney's family also travel to Tokyo this weekend for a memorial event and The Heaney Centre in Belfast will present a Heaney conference next Friday (April 11).
The NCH evening for Seamus Heaney will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio One on April 26.
