Caroline Aherne battling lung cancer

Royle Family creator Caroline Aherne has revealed she is battling lung cancer. 

The 50-year-old creator, who previously had bladder and eye cancer, has revealed she is undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

Speaking about her diagnoses Aherne said: "I've had cancer and my brother's had cancer and we know how it affects people.

She is now teaming up with officials at the U.K.'s MACmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership to call for better support for patients and carers living with the deadly disease.

She added: "They've asked me to get involved and I'm really glad that I can do my bit to encourage people to speak up about where things do go wrong with cancer care."
