Webb explains cutting Woodley's Spider-Man scenes

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb has explained his reasons for cutting Shailene Woodley's scenes as Mary Jane (MJ) from the film.

Speaking to Movies.com, Webb explained how the scenes they shot with Woodley did not fit in with the rest of the plot and would have detracted from the love story between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, played by real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Webb said: "There was one little scene at the beginning where she [MJ] is next door and it took place right around the montage where he [Peter] comes back and there was another little moment between Gwen and MJ. But it just tipped over.

"The relationship between them [Peter and Gwen] is so sacred and so powerful, that it just didn't feel right."

He added: "And it sucks because Shailene is such a ******* great actress and so cool and magical. But it was just about having this obligation to this romance that I thought was sacred. It was just one of those things."
