Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis was "entirely amazed" to receive a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Speaking about his accolade, the 57-year-old triple Oscar-winning actor said: "I'm entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure."
Maleficent actress Angelina Jolie was awarded an honorary Dame for her humanitarian work.
Meanwhile. Dame Maggie Smith has been elevated to a Companion of Honour, while entertainer John Barrowman has been given an MBE and Homeland actor Damian Lewis receives an OBE.
The late Stephen Sutton was awarded a posthumous MBE after inspiring people to donate more than £4m to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Other stars being recognised for their work include author Hilary Mantel, broadcaster Cerys Matthews, Beatles biographer Hunter Davies and actress Phyllida Law – who is mother to actresses Sophie and Emma Thompson.
