Legendary US radio personality Casey Kasem has died at a hospice outside Seattle in Washington. He was 82.
Kasem was the original host of the internationally-broadcast American Top 40 countdown, starting on July 4, 1970 and continuing until 2004, hosting several spin-offs until 2009.
Besides doing radio, Kasem was also the voice of Shaggy on the much-loved children's animated TV show Scooby Doo.
"Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken," his daughter, Kerri, wrote on Facebook.
Originally from Detroit in Michigan, Kasem's real name was Kemal Amin Kasem. He was married twice.
In recent years he suffered from Lewy body disease, a form of dementia with symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease.
His medical care and visitor access has been the cause of a legal row between the children from his first marriage and his second wife, Jean Kasem.
