Talks on the Garth Brooks Croke Park concerts, which were scheduled to take place today in Dublin City Council's Civic Offices, have been called off.
Those due to take part in the meeting were the council's Chief Executive, Owen Keegan; the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke; promoter Peter Aiken and mediator Kieran Mulvey.
The cancellation of the meeting followed a statement from the residents' group most opposed to the holding of the concerts, saying that it would now agree to some going ahead.
Eamon O'Brien of the Croke Park Streets Committee had previously threatened legal action against any of the concerts.
Mr O'Brien said that "in the interest of all the Croke Park communities we are prepared to consider a new direction with a view to facilitating the holding of the Garth Brooks concerts."
On RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Councillor Burke said attempts were being made to seek President Obama's help in the matter and, separately, he had been offered assistance by the Mexican Ambassador to Ireland.
A spokesperson for Brooks has said that he will address the issues surrounding his Dublin concerts later today.
The musician is holding a major press conference in Nashville today, which is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm Irish time.
Brooks is expected to make a major announcement about his career, with speculation rife that he will end his retirement and begin a World Tour.

His spokesperson has said that he will speak about the circumstances surrounding the Croke Park concerts at the press conference.
