A new documentary on Elvis' first recordings in legendary Sun Studios; a new series in which very naughty boy Alan Carr lets the great British public be judge, jury and executioner on singing talent; and we play the USA in the women's rugby world cup.
Elvis: That's All Right 60 Years On, BBC4, 9.10pm
t's sixty years since Elvis Presley first stepped into Sun Studios in Memphis and changed the world when he recorded his first single That's All Right. In this new Beeb documentary (and great to see a new crop of music docs on Friday night), actor and musician Sam Palladio hosts a musical tribute to The King which goes all the way back to Elvis' dirt poor childhood to the moment producer Sam Phillips put him in front of a mic in Sun. Candi Staton, The Pierces and Laura Bell Bundy will perform some of Elvis' greatest hits.
The Singer Takes it All, Channel 4, 9.00pm
It is the natural progression from the sheer inanity of X Factor really - very naughty boy Alan Carr presents this new live show in which the singing talent will pass by viewers on a conveyor belt, just like the `product' they are. At home, the public will then vote on who is ignobly dumped and who goes through - quite possibly to end up on the CD racks beside the fruit section in Tesco. Genius! And with Carr at the helm, this should be a hoot.

Live coverage of Ireland v USA from Paris in the first match of the 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup. Ireland are placed in pool B alongside USA, New Zealand and Kazakhstan and the Irish squad is captained by Fiona Coghlan. Ireland Women's head coach Philip Doyle named a 26 strong squad for the World Cup with the team opening their campaign with a tough encounter against the USA whom Ireland played twice in the previous Women's Rugby World Cup.
