2fm's Ryan Tubridy has revealed he is looking forward to Ray D'Arcy "joining the gang" in both RTÉ Radio and Television.
Reacting on his 2fm radio show this morning (December 8) to the shock announcement that Ray D'Arcy was leaving Today FM to move to RTÉ Radio 1, Ryan Tubridy explained that while there had been talk of Derek Mooney's upcoming departure from his afternoon slot, nobody had mentioned Ray D'Arcy as a possible replacement.
Tubridy added: "He's an extremely talented broadcaster, very popular in Today FM and it will be a tough old day for his colleagues today. He's not there. He'll be here in RTÉ, in Radio 1 at the very beginning of February in Derek Mooney's slot.
"It's good news for Ray D'Arcy and a shrewd and wise more for RTÉ and that has as much to do with TV as it has to do with radio. That's my uneducated and uninformed guess.
"He's very welcome back to the mothership. He'll be very welcome here and I hope he gets a few weeks or a month or two off before he has to prepare for his new reality.
"We welcome Ray to the gang and hope he's happy here."
