Colin Firth to play sailor in new biopic

Colin Firth has been cast in an upcoming biopic about amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst.

The Kingsman: The Secret Service star will take the leading role in director James Marsh's (The Theory of Everything) project which tells the true story of Crowhurt's attempt to win the first World Yacht Race in 1968.

According to Deadline, Blueprint Pictures and BBC Films will produce the project, which will be based on a script by Scott Z Burns.

Crowhurst's story has previously been the subject of documentaries, films and plays, including Daniel Bryan's 2004 play Almost A Hero.
