Greek singer Demis Roussos dies aged 68

Greek singer Demis Roussos, who sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, has died aged 68.

A musician, with a keen ear for melody and arrangements that proudly utilised Greek folk elements, he enjoyed a healthy sequence of hits in the early to mid-1970s, including Forever and Ever, Goodybye My Love Goodbye, and My Friend the Wind.

Roussos died early on Sunday morning in Greece.

Artemios "Demis" Ventouris Roussos was born June 15, 1946 and first came to fame as a member of Aphrodite's Child, a progressive rock group that also included Vangelis.

Roussos was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, the son of a Greek father, engineer Yorgos Roussos. His mother was Nelly Mazloum, who was Egyptian of Italian origin. His parents lost their possessions during the Suez Crisis and consequently decided to move to Greece.
