Liberties rocker Imelda May has lent her name to a new €12,000 scholarship programme at the music college BIMM Dublin.
The programme allows one student to take up a scholarship to study on the four- year BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music at the Liberties-based college.
The British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Dublin offers a degree in Commercial Modern Music validated by the Dublin Institute of Technology.
The Imelda May Scholarship will be open to all successful applicants who apply for a place available at BIMM Dublin this September through the CAO system (deadline 5.15pm on Sunday February 1, using course code DT506). The application process also includes a practical audition.
The scholarship is to the value of €12,000 over the four year period. Imelda will work with the college to decide which lucky student will receive the scholarship.
BIMM Dublin opened in 2011 with 220 students, and currently has 740 students enrolled. All BIMM tutors are music industry professionals, including Cathy Davey, Cormac Curran and James Byrne of Villagers, Mick Pyro of Republic of Loose, Ronan Yourell of Delorentos, Mark Greaney of JJ72, and Coronas manager Jim Lawless.
