Blur have confirmed an April release for The Magic Whip, their first album since 2003's Think Tank.
The band announced details of the new album at a press conference in a Chinese restaurant in London which was webcast on their Facebook page earlier today.
"Finally, we can confirm that we will be releasing an album, The Magic Whip on April 27th, our first as a four-piece in 16 years!" says a post on the band's Facebook page.
The recordings began during a five-day break in touring in Spring 2013 at Avon Studios in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The tapes were put aside when the group finished touring and returned to their respective lives.
Last November, guitarist Graham Coxon revisited the tracks and, drafting in blur's early producer Stephen Street, he worked with the band on the material. Frontman Damon Albarn then added lyrics.
The tracklisting for The Magic Whip is: Lonesome Street, New World Towers, Go Out, Ice Cream Man, Thought I Was a Spaceman, I Broadcast, My Terracotta Heart, There are Too Many of Us, Ghost Ship, Pyongyang, Ong Ong, Mirrorball.
Blur will also play the British Summer Time gig in Hyde Park on June 20, their fourth headline show at the London venue.
