After months of speculation it was finally confirmed that Colin Farrell is joining the cast of HBO's True Detective for the second series – and as these picture prove filming has got underway in California.
The second instalment of the critically acclaimed show, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the original series, will follow three police officers and a career criminal as they navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
38-year-old Farrell plays conflicted cop Ray Velcoro, whose loyalties are torn between the corrupt police department and the gangster Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughan) who "owns" him.
Meanwhile, Taylor Kitsch plays war veteran and police officer Paul Woodrugh, who works for the California Highway Patrol. He's got a troubled past and is faced with "the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened."
Rachel McAdams also stars, as a no-nonsense detective named Ani Bezzerides.
True Detective series two is expected to arrive on HBO and Sky Atlantic this summer.
