Netflix has announced that it has bought the rights to Jadotville, the new Jamie Dornan-starring film about Irish soldiers' heroism in the Congo, for a 2016 premiere in all its territories.
The film will go into production in Ireland and South Africa in April.
Produced by Irish company Parallel Films, written by Kevin Brodbin and directed by Dubliner Richie Smyth, Jadotville tells the true story of the 150 Irish UN troops under the command of Commandant Pat Quinlan (Dornan) who were attacked by forces loyal to Katangese Prime Minister Moise Tshombe in the Congo in September 1961.
Deadline.com quotes producer Alan Moloney of Parallel Films as saying: "As filmmakers, we are constantly looking for new ways to bring a movie to the largest possible audience. Netflix has already reinvented the TV market and is now moving front and centre into the film business."
