RTÉ TEN at the Oscars - the big night has arrived!

Stephen Byrne is LA to report on all the glitz and glam at the Oscars for TEN and TwoTube. Here's his latest blog post from Hollywood.

The 87th Academy Awards is upon us and LA is buzzing with anticipation. The red carpet is set, the awards polished and the stage in position for what is definitely set to be an unpredictable show. We arrived here on Wednesday to pick up our credentials not knowing what to expect. I was taken aback by the organisers and how helpful and calm they were but also appreciative for us being there to cover the event. Ehhh its the Oscars, thanks for letting me within 100 feet of the place! I am a social media head though so when I found out I couldn't Instagram my Oscar badge..trauma.

The 16,500 square foot red carpet has been replaced this year after last year's Noah like floods that engulfed LA. This place talks about rain like an impending war and the fear is that even if the slightest bit of drizzle falls today everyone will panic. Walking down the red carpet is possibly the most surreal experience. It's glamorous, regal and fitting for the stars but also, it's situated on Hollywood Boulevard, next to tacky $5 dollar stores and tourist traps.

We got our first look at the winner interview rooms on Thursday where we will be situated today! They are in the Loews Hollywood Hotel which is right beside the Dolby Theatre which creates an epic long walk of a million thoughts for each person who comes off stage victorious. This is the room that Jared Leto made famous last year for his selfie antics and Jennifer Lawrence the year before. After that we popped out to visit Dubliner Richie Baneham who picked up a best Visual Effects award for his work on Avatar. We had a chat and he let us hold his Oscar which was a lot heavier than I thought! Expect a full interview with him coming up on TwoTube soon.

The general feeling around the corridors of the Dolby Theatre is that Boyhood is going to snap up an award for Best Picture, Julianne Moore Best Actress, Eddie Redmayne Best Actor, JK Simmons best Supporting Actor and Patricia Arquette Best Supporting Actress and I would say I have to agree. Having said that though, I've been assured that there are always surprises.

We of course have two representatives this year in the form of Cartoon Saloon for Song of The Sea in the Best Animated Film category and in the Best Live Action Short Film category Boogaloo and Graham - which after picking up the BAFTA is favourite. We joined the guys last night for a bite to eat at Fionnuala Flanagan's house in Beverly Hills to celebrate this year's Irish success and bumped into Moone Boy's David Rawle who had just only been told hours before that he had a ticket to the main event. Here's hoping Cartoon Saloon pick up the award and we get to see him up on that stage!

For all your Oscars action stay tuned to @RTE_TEN and @TwoTubeTV
