U2, Bill Clinton and Daniel Day Lewis are among a line-up of A-listers who have contributed to Sons+Fathers, a new book celebrating the Irish Hospice Foundation.
Inspired by U2 frontman Bono, the new book "celebrates the unique relationship between a man and his child."
Neil Jordan and Gabriel Byrne have also contributed to Sons+Fathers, which is due for publication on Father's Day on June 21
Hot Press reports that Bono has donated drawings of his father towards the end of his life for use in the book. The other three members of U2, former manager Paul McGuinness and his son Max, Julian Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, and Gavin Friday are also involved.
"Bono planted the seed for this book with his generous gift of the drawing he made of his father when he was dying," Sharon Foley, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation said.
"He asked if they could be used to raise money for The Irish Hospice Foundation, so we decided on a book, and the net was cast wide and far. We were blown away by the response and generosity of the participants, all who are very busy, well-known people."
All proceeds from Sons+Fathers, which features a foreword by Colm Tóibin, will go towards The Irish Hospice Foundation's Nurses for Night Care Programme. The service provides over 1,400 nights of free nursing care at home annually to people with a non-malignant terminal illness.
Other contributors include John Boorman, Colin Farrell. and writers John Banville, Roddy Doyle, Robert Fisk, Paul Auster, Mick Heaney, Colum McCann, Joseph O'Connor and Salman Rushdie.
