Sinitta has offered her take on Zayn Malik's abrupt departure from the One Direction world tour, saying that the band "need to rest".
22-year-old Malik was sick-noted with stress previous to the band's gigs in Manila and Jakarta and returned to the UK.
Singer Sinitta - who's also an ex-girlfriend of music mogul Simon Cowell - told The Sun: "It builds up. It takes its toll. You see a lot of artists go through that.
"You go and go and go and go. You've got youth, adrenaline and excitement to go on. They need to rest."
She wished the star a speedy recovery, adding: "Get well soon, Zayn."
Meanwhile, on rumours that he may leave the band for good, Sinitta reassured BBC's Newsbeat: "Nothing like that's been announced."
She also dismissed reports that SyCo record label boss Cowell had been applying too much pressure on 1D.
"They are hungry, they are excited, they want to go and meet all the fans," she said.
"They're trying to meet all the fans' demands and not leave anybody out, but it's hard to be there for everybody all the time - we've only got one One Direction."
