Russell Crowe's directorial debut The Water Diviner is in cinemas now and he spoke to TEN about working both behind the camera and in front of it for the first time, saying film is a "relentless ask".
Speaking at the JDIFF premiere of The Water Diviner, Crowe said of starring in and directing the film, "Well you know, that's an all-encompassing job.
"Either of those jobs is difficult enough. but you know, I think it's just a combination of my experience and years on film sets. I started working in front of camera when I was 6-years-old and I've been doing lead roles in feature films for 25 years so you accumulate a tertiary level of experience where you've been in all of these situations before, you've been a part of the problem solving on other people's sets so you recognise moments as they come up and you move forward.
"I also know, essentially, that film is a relentless ask, and you must meet that relentless ask with an equally relentless energy and that's the only way it gets done."
