Prior to becoming an overnight success following his performance as Colonel Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, the German-Austrian actor was well known for his work on stage.

Fanning asked him if his background in theatre helped his approach to film, in terms of the script: "Absolutely. To not mess with an author is something that I learned from an author 30 years back.

"They [actors] don't do that anymore, they mess."

Fanning also asked him if the success of Inglourious Basterds opened up so many new doors for him that it basically changed his life and in a word, accompanied by an earnest nod, he replied: "Yes."

Waltz also spoke to Fanning about working with Tarantino, his character in Django Unchained and the upcoming Oscars on February 24.

You can hear the full interview on The Dave Fanning Show on 2fm this Saturday, January 12 from 10am to 12pm.
