Rose of Tralee host Dáithí Ó Sé says that he's had a mixed reaction to his new beard and hasn't decided whether he'll shave it off for next week's festival down in Kerry.
"When I was on the Today show I used to shave at half six in the morning and I would have to shave again at 3.30. So I haven't shaved since May," he told the RTÉ Guide.
"When I put the image up on Facebook I got 14,000 hits and most people said no. I don't know whether I'll keep it for the Rose [of Tralee] or not. But I kind of like it and Rita (wife, former New Jersey Rose, Rita Talty) likes it too."

Dáithí's new facial hair was the main talking point at the photocall to launch the Rose of Tralee 2013 at Dublin Airport this morning with some of the ladies loving his new rugged look and others pleading with the Kerry native to shave the new beard off there and then.

Ó Sé returns to host the Rose of Tralee for the fourth time this Monday and Tuesday (Aug 19 & 20) on RTÉ One, and he has some neighbourly advice for anyone who dismisses the annual shindig as 'The Lovely Girls Competition': "It's very simple, if you don't like The Rose of Tralee, just pick up the remote control and watch something else."
He is due to return for the Today show with co-host Maura Derrane this October and they'll present the show across all five days.
