Today presenter Maura Derrane and her husband, Fine Gael TD, John Deasy, welcomed a baby boy last night.
The happy news was confirmed by John Deasy's office this morning.
The 43-year-old presenter and journalist and her partner are said to be thrilled with their new arrival that arrived a few weeks before the due date.
Speaking to The Independent Newspaper first-time mum Maura said: "He was born at 9.45pm last night.
"He came early so was weighed six pounds, but he is good and healthy. We are calling him Cal."
Derrane's Today co-host Daithí O'Se revealed that Cal looks like his TD dad. He said: "I'm just delighted for her, and it's another boy, with our own now and Claire Byrne had her little fella, and sure we're just delighted for Maura.
"I was chatting to Maura this morning and she is just in great form. I went to bed early last night and I woke up and saw it on my Twitter feed so I gave her a shout.
"She is over the moon and she says he looks like John."
Derrane, who announced her exciting baby news in January, is believed to have kept the sex of their baby a surprise until the birth.
